SAKAI IN SA Charity Dinner

After the fantabulous and glamorous ‘Asia in SA’ dinner in August this year, where I had one of the best nights EVER, last night I attended the ‘Sakai in SA’ charity black tie dinner brought to us by Ginza Miyako restaurant in Adelaide and held at Adelaide Casino. Opportunity International, who assist people to work their way out of poverty in the developing world, was the chosen charity for this event.

What we got for our money was a 6 course degustation dinner by the legendary Chef Hiroyuki Sakai (otherwise known as ‘Iron Chef French’ from the unforgettable Iron Chef TV show), Chef Ikuei Arakane and Chef Mark Normoyle, (also holders of the ‘Iron Chef’ title). Also in the line-up was Executive Pastry Chef Pierrick Boyer from Le Petit Gateau and Head Chef Kazuki Ushiro from Ginza Miyako. The dinner also showcased matching Australian wines, presented by Sommelier Masahiko Iga. Arakane and Normoyle were also involved in the Asia in SA dinner.

I was excited to be invited to the ‘meet and greet’ function earlier in the week and got to meet Chef Sakai and get a photo with him (he doesn’t speak English, so the conversation was short – but he’s a great smiler and nodder!). At 73 years of age, he’s an inspiration – he’s super-fit, smiling all of the time and full of energy. He even showed off his skills as a Taiko drummer.

Anyway, I just had to share my food photos with you as the dishes were so beautiful and so delicious – I’ll let them speak for themselves.
