TOP 100 QUEST: ARGUS DINING ROOM, Hepburn Springs, Victoria
I’d reviewed the menu prior to my visit and it sounded pretty exciting! When I arrived, the disappointing thing was that the actual dining room was shut due to renovations so we didn’t get to sit in the usual area but we were seated in a more casual room. They weren’t offering the full menu either but rather a pared down version. No one had told me this in advance. Oh well, not to worry.
I chose the Crumbed Pigs Head, Celeriac Remoulade and Watercress for entree. It was in the form of a terrine, crumbed and deep fried topped with an egg cooked for 6 hours at 63 degrees. So good! Then, the Fish Pie. Also good! Such a rich lunch, we felt full for hours!
Argus is fine dining based on local produce and buying direct from the farmers. It would be good to go again to dine in the actual dining room and sample the full menu but I certainly enjoyed my meal!
