GRAND TRUFFLE LUNCHEON, Adelaide
It would be remiss of me not to mention one of the great food events of 2015 – the Grand Truffle Luncheon. Put on by Truffle Adelaide at the Market, just the name ‘Grand Truffle Luncheon’ got me excited! I only discovered it was on by finding Truffle Adelaide accidentally on Instagram, and I’m so glad I did! The luncheon was part of the truffle festival at the Adelaide Central Market.
In short, it was a truffle lover’s dream! For $155 you got a 3 course truffle menu with matched Penny’s Hill wines, and champagne on arrival with truffled canapes, plus music by a string quartet – not to mention the special experience of dining at a very long table down one of the aisles of the market itself. It was a fine and very civilised affair. The menu was put together by chef Stuart Oldfield of Hand Made Catering and others, featuring fresh truffles from Australian Truffle Traders.
It was a really well-run event and heaps of fun being surrounded by fellow truffle-freaks. You could even win a truffle to take home by correctly answering the truffle quiz questions – yes, it was educational as well! The food was fantastic, and there was certainly no scrimping on the truffles or the alcohol!
Bring on the next one!
